world of more

A fine organisational effort from Gus had us meet up at Heathrow on 7pm on Friday night. A fine blagging effort by Carla got us into the luxury of the BA lounge. A fine driving effort in the Multipla minibus by Baz got us to the Red Squirrel campsite at the back of the Clachaig Inn by 1am through driving snow.

We were thwarted in our first walking plan by a well locked gate and a fuck-off river that resisted any thoughts of crossing. So we set off for the ridge of Buchaille Etive Mor by heading straight up Stob Dearg from the East.

The cloud started at about 600m, but as we reached the summit it lifted, displaying a clear view of peaks and valleys for 30 miles all around. Across Rannoch Moor, down to Loch Leven and Loch Etive, even Ben Nevis was clear.

The night in the Clachaig was, ahem, heavy, and Sunday dawned with constant rain. We took a long look at our proposed route for the day up Ben Starav, and got back in the motor for a Highland drive like some sort of speed crazed pensioners

A razz through Glencoe and out towards pretty little Oban took us over the tidal Falls of Lora which run under the bridge at the head of Lock Etive. The tide was running fast and some playboaters were pulling impressive moves in the fast water.
